Spectral Dependence of the Broad Emission-line Region in Agn

چکیده
We derive a theoretical relation between RBLR, the size of the broademission-line region of active galactic nuclei, and the observed soft X-ray luminosity and spectrum. We find that in addition to the well known RBLR ∼ L 1/2 scaling, RBLR depends also on the soft X-ray spectral slope. Applying this relation to calculate a predicted BLR radius and emission-line width, we show that including the dependence on the spectrum significantly improves the agreement between the calculated BLR radius and the radius independently determined from reverberation mapping as well as the the agreement between the calculated velocity dispersion and the observed FWHM of the Hβ line. We evaluate a theoretical expression for the line width, providing a physical explanation to the anti-correlation between the soft X-ray slope and the emission-line width observed in narrow-line Seyfert galaxies.

Evolutive unification in composite Active Galactic Nuclei
In this paper we explore an evolutionary Unified scenario involving super massive black hole (SMBH) and starburst (SB) with outflow, that seems capable of explaining most of the observational properties –of at least part– of AGNs Our suggestion is explored inside the expectations of the Starburst model close associated with the AGN where the narrow line region (NLR), broad line region (BLR) and...
متن کاملX-ray Variability and Spectral Scaling: a Measure of Blr Sizes in Agn
We developed a new method of determination of the size of the broad emission-line region (BLR) in active galactic nuclei. This method relates the radius of the broad-line region of AGN to the soft X-ray luminosity and spectral index. Comparing the BLR distances calculated from our model to the BLR distances determined by reverberation mapping shows that our scaling law agrees with the R ∼ L1/2 ...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملFar-Ultraviolet Spectra of AGN: First Results from FUSE
Composite spectra derived from HST observations of moderate redshift (z ∼ 1) quasars show that the peak of the spectral energy distribution is at ∼1000 Å, and that the ionizing continuum falls off smoothly to shorter wavelengths as fν ∼ ν −1.8. HUT and FUSE observations of nearby AGN (e.g., 3C 273) show similar results. FUSE spectra reveal a wealth of detail in the 912–1200 Å spectral range, in...
